The Magnificent Seven (2016) Reviews

It has been a long time that mainstream Hollywood has made a Western movie. The closest I can remember was the Shanghai Knights with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. But viewers are surely in for a treat with this one. For a generation who has never indulged in Westerns there is more in store this year. For the old timers, it should be a nostalgic trip at the movie theaters.

Liz Braun at the Toronto Sun says the Cinematography, Music, Action and the social message, all work in unison to give viewers an entertaining couple of hours of cinema. What is also hard to miss in the movie is the diversity of this seven man crew which has a Mexican outlaw and a knife throwing Korean and is headed by a Black man.

Critics agree that the performances by actors are good. David Ehlrich points out that the movie gets the little things right and brings a fresh look to the old remake that will be accepted well by audiences at the Box Office.

Westerns are known to be slow-paced and may not resonate with today’s audience who prefer to read a synopsis rather than the whole book. But Jordan Hoffman thinks the movie is bit too slow toward the end and this could cause some angst in viewers.
