Rangoon Music Review

The soundtrack opens with its flagship song Bloody Hell. The song is catchy and uses rock and roll rhythms with a strong feel of jazz music popular at the time. Lyrics by Gulzar ensure that the song follows a meter, as against many these days that do not. The song will surely get you do the Boogie Woogie. Think Rangoon and you can’t stop yourself from humming the classic ‘Mere Piya Gaye Ragoon’. Vishal Bharadwaj pays tribute to the classic with his Mere Miyan Gaye England which is loosely based on the original song as he mixes Indian folk rhythms to give it a folksy touch.

Most of the songs have fresh and different compositions and you will enjoy the old-world feel that the music captures. The only exception seems to be Ek Dooni Do which veers toward a Spanish composition and kind of seems out of place, but perhaps our leading lady is enacting a Spanish show here. Alvida reminds you of compositions from Vishal Bharadwaj’s Maachis and has that haunting, and painful touch. Arijit does justice to the composition and you can hear pain in his voice.

Julia opens on a slow note and you almost write it off. But stay with the song and you will be tapping your feet in no time. Chori Chori once again captures the singing style of early Bollywood movie and Rekha Bharadwaj does an exceptional job in recreating old Bollywood singing style.

Movie Recipe Verdict: One of the best albums that captures the time and complements the period drama. You will won’t mind putting most of the songs on your playlist.

Yeh Ishq Hai Lyrics (Rekha Bharadwaj)

Kikar jale gulmohar jale, aag na rang badle,
Sawan bhadon bujhe nahi, Jalan jo sang chale;

Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai,
Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai

Sufi ke sulfe ki, lau uth ke kehti hai,
Aatish ye bujhke bhi, jalti hi rehti hai;

Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai,
Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai

Saahil pe sar rakh ke, Dariya hai soya hai,
Sadiyon se behta hai, Aankhon ne boya hai;

Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai,
Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai

Tanhaai dhundta hai, Parchhaai bunta hai,
Resham si nazron ko, Aankhon se sunta hai;

Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai,
Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai

Sufi ke sulfe ki lau utthi allah hooo,
alla hoo … allah hoo
allah hoo , allah hoo, allah hoo,

Sufi ke sulfe ki, lau uthi allah hooo,
jalte hi rehna hai, baki na main na tu

Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai

Bekhud sa rehta hai, ye kaisa sufi hai,
jaage to tabrezi, bole to rumi hai;

Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai,
Yeh ishq hai, Yeh ishq hai
