Merry Christmas, Cowboy promises to kick off the holiday season early on with a late September release. For the longest time, I have loved books by Janet Dailey and have always associated her with a Western or cowboy theme. So picking up this book was like meeting an old friend.
The story is set in Denver, and I was a bit disappointed that it never ventured onto a ranch or in the country. Paula Lewis is a tough cop who also believes in charity. She is volunteering all her spare time at Christmas House, an old mansion that has been decorated and set up as a holiday season attraction. In charge of security, she also has a lot of ideas that promise to generate more money for those in need.
Zach is a rancher who is spending some time in Denver, moonlighting as a carpenter. He is looking to pick up a few jobs in the off season. He ends up making a designer sign for Christmas House, and is hired on to do some other jobs too. There is an instant attraction between Zach and Paula.
Brandon is a troubled kid whose parents abandoned him. He lives with his grandmother but gets into some scrapes. Zach and Paula unite forces to save the Christmas House and keep Brandon straight.
Janet Dailey’s Merry Christmas, Cowboy gets top points for holiday cheer. The Christmas motif is strong throughout the book. It’s an easy read that will leave you wistful for snowy roads and mistletoe, candy canes and Santa Claus!
