Seducing Miss Dunaway is a romantic tale with a strong plot. Seventeen year old Mary meets Fell at a society dinner and announces her intention to live her life as a reformer. She talks him into helping her shame herself.
Twelve years later, Mary is the respectable Miss Dunaway and runs an establishment for poor orphans. She is all prim and proper and devoted to the life she has chosen. Lord Fellington has been living in despair after a cruel accident that wiped out his family and friends, and seeks to redeem himself. He wants to volunteer at Miss Dunaway’s establishment. Mary recognizes the Fell from her past early on, and is afraid her cover will be blown. Lord Fellington is very much in awe of Miss Dunaway and her reputation for helping the underprivileged.
It does not take long for the two to rekindle their own attraction. Fell wants Mary to assume her rightful place as his wife. But Mary is not sure if she can continue doing her charity work while living in the lap of luxury. This leads to some uncertainty and friction that the two must resolve before moving ahead.
Kate Rothwell has painted her heroine as enterprising, independent and mindful of the suffering of others. Seducing Miss Dunaway is a Victorian romance that offers much more than steamy kisses, and is a short, light read.
