Engaging Father Christmas Movie Story
For most of her life, Christmas celebrations were at best irritants to Miranda Chester (Erin Krakow), who lost her mother – her only family – when she was a little girl. But all that changed last Christmas when Miranda went to New England in search of information about her biological father and in the process found love with Ian McAndrick (Niall Matter) in the quaint village of Carlton Heath.
When she and Ian learned that her father was the late actor James Whitcomb, Miranda suddenly had the family she’d always longed for. That life-changing event has stayed a secret known only to the Whitcomb and McAndrick families, lest the Whitcombs find their private lives splashed across the tabloids, with James’ infidelity to his wife Margaret (Wendie Malick) exposed and his reputation sullied.
Traveling to Carlton Heath for her second Christmas, Miranda has never been so excited about the holiday. When she runs into her old boyfriend Josh (Andrew Francis) at the airport, he can’t help but comment on the oddness of her taking a Christmas vacation, not to mention her evident good cheer.
Catching up with Josh over coffee, Miranda eventually confides that she finally solved the mystery of her father’s identity. She swears Josh to secrecy and he gives his word. Miranda’s arrival in Carlton Heath feels like a true homecoming, with warm welcomes from her step brother Peter (Jim Thorburn), his wife Ellie (Aliyah O’Brien) and their two children, as well as Ian’s parents, Andrew (Michael Kopsa) and Katherine (P. Lynn Johnson). Ian has thought of everything to make her return as special and romantic as possible – a combination that reaches its apex when he proposes one twinkly night.
Miranda can hardly believe her good fortune: a man she loves, a wonderful family, an enchanting place to call home. But when a seemingly innocent, anonymous text message is followed by a series of untraceable missives threatening to publicly reveal the truth about her famous father, Miranda realizes she’s put her family’s privacy at risk. Desperate to find out who is behind the messages before it’s too late, Miranda is ready to do whatever she must to spare her family from pain, even if it means leaving Carlton Heath – and Ian – forever.
