Biographies, without doubt, was the flavor of Bollywood in 2016. The other genre that attempted to woo the audiences to the theaters was Supernatural. With more investments and audience demand for better action sequences, Bollywood roped in some foreign action directors and improved the overall action sequences. Some experimented with new techniques, while other stuck to the old formula. Here are our top Bollywood action movies picks from 2016.
Rocky Handsome
Rocky Handsome starring John Abraham (Kabir) is adapted from a Korean movie. A small kid abducted by some drug traders for his mother’s transgressions. Kabir shares a special bond with the kid and now must go after the drug mafia to save his little friend.
The movie is patchy and drags a bit here and there, but hardcore action movie fans will like some of the action sequences in the movie.
Jai Gangajal
Jai Ganagajal is Gangajal with a woman police officer. There are no surprises here. Local politicians who double up as goons, helpless victims, and corrupt police are some of the recurring themes. Having said that, the movie has the potential to evoke hate for the villain and get riled up by the portrayal of the crime. Jai Ganagajal can be classified as a vigilante movie and Gabbar fans will like this one. Performances by actors will keep you engaged through the movie.
Ghayal Once Again
Just when you thought people have moved on, Sunny Deol returns in a movie that is no doubt made just fro him. The movie sees Sunny in another vigilante role. His past makes him dangerous as well as unpredictable. When a blogger uncovers that his mentor didn’t die in an accident but was murdered, our protagonist must do everything to save the blogger and her friends from a rich and powerful businessman who controls the politicians and the police.
Baaghi
A run-of-the-mill action movie. The protagonist falls in love with a girl who is the object of affection of a martial Arts champion. Now as our hero learns new fighting skills, he must protect his love interest as well as avenge the death of his master. Baaghi is full of typical martial arts movie tropes, and average action sequences. But I guess it has the potential to keep young viewers engrossed.
7 Hours to Go
An Action-Thriller, 7 Hours to Go actually has a good story and a much better plot than many of the other action movies that came out this year. Good performances by the actors and quirky characters will keep you entertained through the two plus hours. Definitely worth streaming the movie online and deserves a place on the Best Action Hindi Movies 2016 list.
Dishoom
Action-Comedy is not a genre that Bollywood enters a lot. Although one of the most successful movies in Indian history is a buddy movie, we don’t see them a lot. Dishoom is without doubt one of the best action-comedies to come out this year and if you have not seen this movie yet, you definitely have a winner for fun afternoon or evening with your family.
A Flying Jatt
A Flying Jatt is a great choice of you want to pick a movie for your kids on a weekend. That is the only demographics which may find this movie amusing and entertaining. Other than that A Flying Jatt is like a collage of various Hollywood movie scenes plucked and put in a sequence. Do you think it deserves a spot on Best Action Hindi Movies 2016?
Akira
Akira has an interesting story and keeps the audience engaged with the twists and turns in the movie. A little too melodramatic at times, performance by Sonakshi Sinha is quite good. The parallel story threads and multiple sub-plots make Akira a good choice to enjoy an engaging action movie.
Shivaay
I had high hopes from Shivaay. And it did deliver on many fronts. Good Cinematography and action sequences ensured that the audience stayed wowed. However, a it is two close to the Taken franchise and that might put you off a bit if you are a Taken fan. If you do not know what I am talking about, you should definitely watch this action movie.
Force 2
Force 2 was extensively shot in foreign locales. That and globe hopping team of ACP Yash and his boss chasing the villain responsible for killing RAW agents will keep you engrossed in the movie. Good action sequences and a chase that will keep you guessing makes Force 2 a good action movie choice for your weekend movie.
