10 Summer Cocktails You Must Try

Summers mean dry and super hot unbearable weather. But it also means vacations and enjoying cool drinks all day long. What can be better than sitting on the beach in the cabana shade, sipping on icy cool summer cocktails.

Here are some Rum and Gin based cocktails that you must try this summer. Why Rum and Gin? Well Vodka is for the winters. Rum, Gin, and Tequila are the quintessential summer liquors around the world. These fruity refreshing cocktails are just right to enjoy a day at the beach or poolside during a staycation.

Classic Margarita | Gimme Some Oven

Well, what can I say, it’s a classic. I am sure most of you drinkers have tried this at least once. Summer without Tequila is not summer! The fresh and icy lemon with agave flavored Tequila is a match made in Mexico. It is made with only a few ingredients, but the blast of fresh lemon promises to drive away the hot air.

If there is one thing that is evident in all Summer Cocktails, it is the fruit juice. This summer cocktail is mainly Pineapple based, like many others. But it is a complex drink and needs skill to mix more that one liqueur to build the drink to its full glory. Use of Coffee Liqueur along with lemon gives it the right balance of sweet and sharp. Some Bahama Mama recipes may also use grenadine.

There is something with the blue color and summers. I guess just looking at the blue helps us cool off a little bit and forget the harsh glaring sun. And when its blue it has to be blue curacao. Blue Heaven is believed to come from the land of the kangaroos, but has now become a classic on almost every Cocktails menu. The refreshing bit comes from the blue color, but the key to the taste is a mix of Pineapple juice and Lime.

There are a number of ways you can make a cocktail. This Blue Heaven recipe from Dan at Matitlement uses Elderflower. I recently tried an Elderflower mocktail at Westin, Pune and it was awesome.

Who hasn’t dreamed of starting a day with a glass of their favorite drink on a wild vacation. Just a little something to break the norm and feel rebellious for a while. Breakfast Martini is the perfect drink to kick-off your booze day and still stick to the breakfast menu. Where there is breakfast there has to be some Marmalade and some orange. Down a couple of these gin based martinis and head on to the poolside for a dip or two.

Meet the devil. Thinking this one has to be from Mexico? Well, No. Although the drink is based on Tequila, the mix is a product of California. Iced Tea is a favorite drink, mostly without the long island. But if you want to kick the shoes and be like the Hangover guys, this is the one to binge on. Traditionally, Long Island Iced Tea is made with five white liqueurs and cointreau.

Miami Spice

This one is high on the fruit and different ones. Something to try for surely. The spice comes from the Spiced Rum. Captain Morgan should work just right for you. The unusual fruit combination of orange and papaya make the drink tangy and sweet and the papya gives it the texture you will not have in most of your regular cocktails. Hungover are you? Having another drink in the morning – or afternoon – is supposed to be the best cure! Zombie cocktail recipe was made by Don The Beachcomber for just that. It is said to have been created to cure hangovers. But once you see the recipe, you will see why it is named Zombie. If the Long Island Tea doesn’t get you  and you are still bent on waking up not knowing what happened last night, try this one.
