 Sully Movie Story

An experienced pilot and an ex US Air Force fighter Pilot boards the US Airways Flight 1549 with his co-pilot Jeffery Skiles. It is a routine flight, one of the many that Sullenberger has piloted over the years as he ferried nearly a million passengers in his flying career. But it is not.

The smooth take-off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport soon turns into a nightmare for passengers on board when a flock of flying geese shut off both the engines of Airbus A320 and stall the plane mid-air just minutes after take-off.

We cannot begin to imagine what must go through a pilot’s mind in these agonizing minutes as he sees the fast approaching ground and an inevitable crash. What do you do? Where do you crash the plane? Land full of buildings and people – how many will that kill? Water? Will that impact be lesser than the hard ground? How soon will it go under? Well, do you even have the control to steer the behemoth?

Thankfully, a trained pilot, a fighter pilot who must fly each sortie with a distinct possibility to not make it back is in the position to calculate the odds of survival much better than an average commercial pilot. We all know Sullenberger made a decision and landed the plane in the Hudson river – a decision later questioned by NTSB –  and saved lives of all on board. But was it really a split-second decision? More importantly, how long was that split second when Sullenberger must have made innumerable simulations, must have mined all the knowledge from all his training, and must have made a firm, unequivocal  decision to land the plane in Hudson river.

“There is something about the near miss like that makes you appreciate the life as you have it” ~ Clint Eastwood

Join Sully as he experienced these unique circumstances and arrived at a conclusion that saved hundreds of lives. The investigation throws up many questions and reporters look at the man behind the ‘wheel’. Right or Wrong, the incident is sure to become a case study for a long time.

Sully Movie Review

Films based on real events and characters have not drummed up much box office business. For example, look at how little interest moviegoers showed in the story about miners trapped underground in “The 33” or boxer Roberto Duran in “Hands of Stone.” The majority of films based on real events aren’t like “Titanic,” where the sinking…
