There are hardly any 70s or 80s kids in India – like in the US – who were not smitten by the Start Trek Original series that was aired on Sunday DoorDarshan. Captain Kirk and Spock were the characters that inspired millions of followers and lifelong faithfuls who still jump at anything Star Trek. The franchise has given many more serials like The Next Generation and The Voyager and many movies since then, but for the die-hard fans, Star Trek will be always synonymous with Captain Kirk and Spock.
The current Reboot Series follows an alternate timeline, but the characterization remains the same as the Original Series. The events in all the movies take place in the 23rd Century. The franchise begins with USS Kelvin investigating a Lightning Storm in space.
Star Trek Beyond is the third installment in the Reboot series and tells the story of events unfolding on USS Enterprise when they are docked at YorkTown for resupply. And for those who are unaware of this fabulous sci-fi world, here’s a brief introduction to get you ready for the movie this weekend.
Starship Enterprise – #StarTrekInInda
The iconic design of USS Enterprise NCC-1701- A is unforgettable. The ship was in service from 2286 to 2293 for just seven years. Almost all the Star Trek movies have used this ship and its voyages as the setting of the movie. Star Trek Beyond is no different. James T. Kirk is the captain of the ship, a character originally played by all familiar Willam Shattner. Captain Kirk is placed in charge of the ship as a punishment and demotion for their handling or rescue of Mr. Spock. The Enterprise NCC-1701-A is the second ship, and some believe that the ship is a newer version of USS Yorktown (NCC-1717).
Captain James T. Kirk
James T. Kirk is the son of George and Winona Kirk. He is born on a shuttle when trying to escape USS Kelvin, where his father is killed. Reckless and impulsive as a teenager, James Kirk matures eventually. He meets Spock in the Starfleet Academy.
Mr. Spock
Spock has a mixed Human-Vulcan lineage and serves on Starship Enterprise as a science Officer. Being a Vulcan he is portrayed as a species that can think only rationally and emotions do not interfere in their understanding or analyzing things in any way.
Star Trek Beyond – Audience and Critics Reaction
Most critics agree that there is nothing new in the movie’s latest installment. But they all also agree that the movie does much better in terms of portraying the Star Trek Original Series. As compared to earlier versions of Star Trek Reboot series, Star Trek Beyond is able to show the teamwork and camaraderie on the ship quite well.
Grand sets and visuals will keep Action movie fans happy. Audiences have called it fun, classy, and an amazing film, across the world. Stay tuned for more reactions here – if you can resist the urge to jump into movie seats and get on a new adventure!
