Police brutality has been a hot button topic for the last year in the US. It is no surprise then that we are seeing this serious issue being framed in the entertainment industry. On the heels of Shots Fired on Fox, Black Entertainment Television (BET) has come with another story that puts police shootings on center stage. Rebel TV show tells the story of an African-American policewoman who leaves the force to investigate the shooting of her brother by the police.

BET’s Rebel is set in Oakland, CA and created by filmmaker John Singleton. John Singleton has directed movies like Shaft and 2 Fast 2 Furious and is a Academy Award Winner for Boyz n the Hood. He also directs the two hour pilot episode of Rebel TV show that airs on March 28.

Rebel Story

Rebel TV show story revolves around Rebecca Cole a.k.a Rebel. Rebecca is a cop who like to play by the rules. But she also knows that as a woman and African-American on the force, she must put in more effort and be better than other if she wants to excel. Ad she is ready to do that.

However, when her brother is shot and killed by a cop, Rebecca begins to have doubts about how the system works. Her drive to find the killers of her brother takes her away from the police force and she becomes a P.I. Caught between allegation by her family who blame her for Malik’s death and her loyalty toward those in blue, Rebecca must find the truth.
