The trend of historical dramas on Indian TV continues with Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s latest offering, Porus on Sony TV. Porus serial tells the story of King Puru of the northern parts of present day Pakistan. The new Hindi serial focuses on the famous battle with Alexander the Great and how Puru halted his advance into Asia. Tewary’s current mythological serial on Indian God Shani, aired on Colors TV, is quite popular and loved.

Porus Serial Story
The historical drama tells the story of King porus and the battle of Hydaspes. Alexendar the Great had traveled from Greece to the sub-continent undefeated and overpowered the strong Persian empire. Now, has has met a huge army in the battle of Hydaspes and King Puru of Pauravas. The legend has it that Alexander’s army saw Elephants in an army for the first time. Alexander tried to reason with Puru and offer him a position in exchange of his kingdom, which Puru refused.
Both army stood face-to-face across the river of Hydaspes for days as Alexander tried to find a suitable spot to cross. After days of posturing the Mcedonian king crossed with a small contingent. Porus sent his son to battle and fight Alexander, but was killed in the battle.
Alexander continued his advance toward King Porus’ army and met him in battle after a couple of days. Porus’ elephants proved lethal, but only for a while. The battle hardened Macedonian King and his army outwitted Porus’ Army, which left him standing alone in the war. Impressed by his bravery Alexander asked Porus how should he be treated and Porus replied ‘As a King’. Alexander appointed Porus as his deputy and the king of the territory. He also gave him all the smaller territories that he had won around the kingdom.
Winning the battle with Porus, ALexander turned toward the Indian Ocean. However, Alexander’s battle weary soldiers revolted and refused to go any further. This marked his return to Babylon, where he died, years later.
