Soojit Sircar returns with Pink. The Amitabh Bachchan starrer is scheduled to release in September and promises to be a treat to watch. Kirti Kulhari and Tapsee Pannu’s performances too look flawless in the trailer. A Legal-Drama that explores the technicalities of assault, sexual abuse, and prostitution. After family dramas like Piku and a slightly humorous Vicky Donor, Soojit Sircar once again picks up one of the most pressing social issues with Pink movie.

When is intercourse technically consensual? What specific action or response does qualify as denial of consent? Pink movie promises to look at these important aspects of abuse through the eyes of law and Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of a prosecutor in a sensitive case.

Pink Movie Story
In a country where Rape charges are trivialized to settle animosity and to break up eloping couples, how does a victim prove abuse. Is a sexually independent victim any lesser than a virgin? That seems to be the point that the movie raises with prosecutor's opening argument in the trailer of Pink. Taapsee Panu and her friends go out to party with their friends. The drunk boys try to molest the girls who escape and hurt Rajveer in the process who also crashes the car they are traveling in. What follows is a series of allegations and counter allegations which makes finding the truth impossible. Deepak (Amitabh Bachchan) decides to fight the case and prove that what happened to the girls was wrong. The events that unfold in the court show how truth is twisted and facts skewed to paint the girls as prostitutes in a society where a girl partying out has already committed a crime and is a woman of questionable character!
Pink Movie Review
I had a lot of hopes from
Pink. A glimpse of Amitabh's performance was enough to draw us to the theaters. But now, we have proof. Based on the limited premiere of Pink, performances from the young cast are equally compelling. None of the actors look awkward or out of character in the movie. The story is simple, but it is the message that the movie tries to communicate that is more important. The writer sends across various messages to the audience as he uses sarcasm to show how people judge single, independent girls based on their behavior. But be warned,
Pink is no thriller. It is a drama that explores how our justice system works and how easily it can be manipulated at the lowest levels, if you know the right people. At no time does the movie make your pulse race in anticipation. So go ahead and watch
Pink if you love the Drama genre. But you won't find Deepak arguing many technicalities. At one time you even wonder why he refuses to call other witnesses like the landlord and the rickshaw driver who could have easily supported the defense arguments. So it also not a kind of movie where you see the counsel refute each charge with a lot of counter evidence or logical arguments - except one. The movie raises the all important question of consent. And to emphasize this point, the writer works in the question of marital rape to show that a rapist is a rapist no matter
who says No and
when they say No. Using the court room drama the movie also dives into the psychology of a molester in India and the contribution of feudal family background that breeds this psychology. It tries to send many messages to this and the next generations. But young audiences in the hall were immune to the circumstances and allegations the three girls were facing, as they laughed off the seriousness of the situations in the movie. So much for having an impact!
