The Lover in the Attic movie on Lifetime is a fictionalized version of the true events from the 20s and is the second movie made on these events after the 1995 film, Man in the Attic.

The Lover in the Attic Movie Plot
The Lover in the Attic movie follows Dolly Oesterreich as she plans and executes deception and betrayal that goes on for years. Fed up with her husband’s drunk ways and lack of physical satisfaction in her marriage, Dolly seduces a repairman visiting her house.
She manipulates him and convinces him to move in to the attic of her house when neighbors begin to talk of the affair. The two continues their torrid affair for years with the man, Otto, staying in he attic and submitting to her whims for years.
But Dolly has a violent altercation with her husband one night and Otto comes down from the attic, afraid for Dolly’s well being. This time, her husband connects the dots and is killed by Otto in the ensuing struggle. The two hatch a plan to paint the incident as a robbery and murder.
Although a suspect, Dolly is found locked in a closet and the police never figure out the third man theory. Dolly keeps on having new affairs with different lovers and Otto finally gets jealous and angry of her. Will Dolly end up loke her husband? or will Otto spill the truth to the police?

Lover in the Attic True Story
In reality, Dolly’s lie was caught by her boyfriend Herman years later, but the police could not charge her at the time of the murder fro lack of evidence. Otto told Herman the truth but ran off to Canada in the mean time and returned to LA years later. When Herman finally talked about the confession and told the truth, the statute of limitations did not allow the police to prosecute Dolly or Otto and they were both free to go.
