Monsoons are here, finally and the air is getting a bit cold. The muggy afternoons are turning into cold, wet, and misty days as the clouds shroud the hills around the city. You know what this means. It is time to pick your favorite mystery and get lost in the world of the devious and deadly. There is one thing that most of us love about watching or reading a mystery story, and that is joining the detective in solving the crime. And new indie author Leena Clover in Gone With the Wings gives us a chase that will keep you engaged in this hunt.
Gone with the Wings
First in the Meera Patel Mystery Series, Gone With the Wings is set in small town Oklahoma, US and introduces us to the series’ unwilling detective who is forced to clear her name of a crime that she is accused of. The book settles pretty well in the Cozy-Culinary genre with loads of references to food and some recipes in the end.

Gone With the Wings Summary
Meera Patel is back home with the family after she dropped out of graduate school. Now she shelves books for a living and rustles up fusion recipes at Sylvie’s Cafe & Diner. Everything is fine until her old nemesis Prudence Walker floats up in the local pond. Meera is accused of murder! Well, she did publicly declare Prudence would drop dead.
Meera cries foul and screams police harassment. But she has no defense when she is accused of a second crime. Flanked by pals Tony and Becky, Meera puts in the leg work, trying to solve clues and discard red herrings.
Gone With the Wings Review
I don’t read a lot of cozy mystery books and prefer mainstream mysteries more. However, a America Desi sleuth sounded like fun. Leena Clover does not disappoint. Meera Patel is the daughter of Indian-American parents who moved to the US years ago. A bright kid, she had her own ideas about life. Once thought to be the next startup wonder, Meera dropped out of school and now works at the local university stacking books in the library and trying her hand at cooking up new dishes for a local diner.
The book gets to the crime quickly and then begins the hunt for the real killer. With enough culture and food, the book veers off at times, but never really lets up on the intrigue. The twists and turns and pace of the book is good enough to keep you interested in the mystery as you get to know about the main characters and the town. Gone With the Wings also seems to have a background story developing as some threads are left open and I am sure we will be hearing about it more in the next two books listed by the author.
