Kapoor & Sons was the obvious winner at the Box Office this week. But if you are looking for action than a mix of Romance, Comedy, and Drama, Eye in the Sky and Dare You were the other two notable releases i India, this week.
Dare You looks like a version of Indian Kill Bill. A girl is molested and raped by a group of men and comes back strong. Her answer is to kill all perpetrators who made her life miserable. Is eye-for-an-eye really the answer to such gruesome crime? But this ethical dilemma is not the topic of this movie.
The movie doesn’t inspire a lot of attention and with two other major releases this week, the reviews for this one have been difficult to come by. And if critics seem to give the movie last preference, some brave viewers who made it to the movie halls have been disappointed by the average performances.
Another interesting release this week is the Helen Mirren starring Eye in the Skye. A feast for drone enthusiasts, the movie centers around British Intelligence command center with American drones at their disposal. There’s a Reaper in the air to track the movement of terrorists in Kenya and then there are those looking like bugs that are used by on-ground intelligence operatives.
Eye in the Sky (2016)
Director: Gavin Hood
Stars: Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman
The main point of contention in this whole drama is how ready are you for the collateral damage. The drones allow you to kill the enemy from a distance and avoid putting your soldiers at risk. But what about the innocent civilians on ground? With drone warfare, the wars are increasingly beginning to look like simulation games where drone operators fire and kill and go home after their shift without a whizz of a bullet or the boom of a gun. The actors performances are good and the movie is tight enough to keep you engaged and tense.
Mumbai Central appears to be another bust this week that cannot hope to stand to the bigwigs. The movie is about a Himachal girl who falls in love with a tourist and moves to Mumbai for her Beau, only to find out that he doesn’t really lover her. The man soon shows his true intentions and sells her off into the flesh trade. The trailer of the movie was enough of an indication that you would be watching a slightly better and longer version of a Crime Patrol episode. So if you haven’t got your routine dose of Crime Patrol, head on to the theaters and endure another run of the mill story. Although mundane, the movie still promises to be better than Dare You.
