Christmas Getaway Movie Plot
Christmas Getaway movie story revolves around Emory, Scott and Katy. Worldly travel writer Emory Blake (Bridget Regan) breaks up with her boyfriend a couple weeks before Christmas. Emory tells her editor she is planning to spend Christmas alone in a cabin in Pine Bluff, and her editor convinces her to write a story while she is there. Widower Scott Hays (Travis Van Winkle) picks up his adorable daughter Katy (Raven Stewart) from school, where a single mom named Alice (Sarah Smyth) extols the virtues of spending Christmas in the mountains, in the village of Pine Bluff.
Katy convinces her father to take her there for the holiday and to participate in a long list of must-do Christmas activities she has planned. Scott, in turn, convinces his mother Marilyn (Teryl Rothery) to join them in Pine Bluff closer to Christmas.
Upon arrival, both Scott and Emory are given keys to the same cabin, an obvious mix-up. But once they learn there are no more cabins available and a snowstorm is setting in, they agree to share the large cabin, at least until Emory can leave the next day.
Meanwhile, Katy wastes no time on her activities list and when Emory realizes that Scott and Katy could be the subjects of a story she needs to write about an American Christmas, she joins them for one activity, then another and another, and even agrees to assist in the building of a gingerbread house with them for the annual Pine Bluff contest.
A couple of times during the trip, Scott and Katy meet up with Alice and her son, Katy’s friend from school, and while Alice would like to get something started with Scott, he is simply not interested in her that way. Emory sees them together and assumes they will likely end up a couple.
Marilyn arrives at the cabin and quickly decides she likes Emory, and observes the way she and Scott look at one another. Certain that her son has finally found someone who might shake him out of his reluctance to open himself up to love following the death of his wife, Marilyn tells her Scott he should make his move.
However, Emory overhears – and misunderstands – the part of their conversation where Scott tells Marilyn that Alice is not for him. Assuming that Scott was talking about her, Emory leaves the next morning.
A phone call with her editor convinces Emory that she needs to at least let Scott know how she feels, so she turns around and while heading back up the mountain becomes stuck in the snow.
However, before she is in any real danger, Scott shows up to rescue her. Each confesses to the other the feelings they have been hiding, and both realize they are the best gift each has ever received.
