“Faraway Downs” is a 6-chapter reimagining of Baz Luhrmann’s 2008 film “Australia,” and it’s nothing short of spectacular. The story centers on Lady Sarah Ashley, an English aristocrat portrayed by the talented Nicole Kidman. In a bold move, Lady Sarah embarks on a journey halfway across the world to confront her wayward husband and take on a unique challenge – the sale of a sprawling million-acre cattle ranch in the vast Australian Outback known as ‘Faraway Downs.’ However, her husband’s tragic demise sets off a chain of events where a ruthless Australian cattle baron, King Carney (played by Bryan Brown), schemes to seize her land. In a reluctant alliance, Lady Sarah joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle drover, brought to life by the charismatic Hugh Jackman, to protect her ranch.
This sweeping adventure takes on a deeper dimension as it is explored through the eyes of Nullah, a bi-racial Indigenous Australian child portrayed by Brandon Walters. Nullah becomes entangled in the government’s draconian racial policy, which history now refers to as the “Stolen Generations.” Together, this unlikely trio embarks on a transformative journey that spans four life-altering years. Along the way, love blossoms between Lady Ashley and the Drover, all against the backdrop of the unavoidable impact of World War II on Northern Australia.
