Love Actually is pure entertainment for the adults. Who says all Christmas movies had to be mushy? Not that this is low on sentiment, or humor or romance!
Love Actually
Director: Richard Curtis
Cast:Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Liam Neeson
Love Actually has a lot of surprises in store from the start to the end. Boasting a super star cast of big names like Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Billy Nighy and Alan Rickman among the men, and the beautiful Laura Linney, Keira Knightley, Emma Thompson among the ladies, the star lineup doesn’t stop here. Rowan Atkinson adds some funny moments too.
The story is set in modern London with Hugh Grant as the newly elected Prime Minister of Britian. He falls in love with one of his staff almost as soon as he takes up residence at 10 Downing. There are several couples, each dealing with some problem as we count down to Christmas. As the Prime Minister struggles with his feelings and the demands of his job, we have a writer trying to summon his creative talent in a remote Netherlands village where he is attracted to his housekeeper. We have a recently widowed father doing his best to connect with his young son as they both grieve for the woman they loved. There is the ‘has been’ rock star who will stop at nothing to make a comeback, and the middle aged happily married man who falls prey to his secretary’s charms. These are only a few of the troubled souls. We have a 8 year old with a crush on the new girl in class, and the crazy guy who goes to Wisconsin to make it big. Not to forget the new bride who realizes she loves someone else.
Love Actually takes you through a whole range of emotions and as Christmas day comes closer, all is well and there is joy all around.
The only snag here is the explicitly graphic scenes interspersed through the movie. They serve no purpose whatsoever. But for them, this would have been one for the whole family.
