Raabta Story
The people at the helm have kept the story of the movie under wraps and kept us guessing. But with the release of Raabta Trailer this week, we can make a few guesses now.
We seem to have a love triangle that spans two different era. We have Shiv romancing his lady love Saira in the current times in South Africa and we also see the couple fighting it out with swords on horseback in time centuries ago. And then there is this ominous story narrated by Irrfan Khan – Ek tha Raja Ek thi Raani, Dono Mar Gaye, Khatam Kahani.
But does it? End the story? Does the death of Raja and Raani really end the story?
Well, we will know soon enough.
Raabta Review
Thefirst reviews of the movie Raabta are out and are not conclusive so far. A UAE critic gives the movie thumbs up and calls it the best intense love story of the year so far, while back here in India, KRK has dubbed the movie as very poor.
We more or less knew the broad strokes of the story so there were no surprises there. The movie begins in the current times as Shiv (Sushant Singh Rajput) gets on a flight to Budapest. SSR plays a flirtatious punjabi munda quite well and very different from his MSD role. Most of the first half builds their romance as the lead pair explores and tests their relationship. The movie gives an hint of conflict early on, but then takes a bit too long to make it a part of the story.
The second half begins on a promising note but the once again lapses into romance in another time. The story drags and fails to retain your interest as we are shown the roots of the conflict, which takes too much time. The conflict never really takes the center stage and is too little too late. You end up getting what’s in the first half, only in a different skin.
The concept is new and good but the execution could have been better. The pace of the movie kills the script. And all the good work in the first half goes down the drain toward the end when the movie should have gained some momentum.
Raabta attempts to do too many things. It could have been RomCom as a reincarnation movie spoof, or a genuine thriller romance like Karz. Or it could have been a Romance-Tragedy. However, Raabta comes across as confused and whimsical as Zakir Merchant.
You ca give this one a miss and head for The Mummy that will surely give you more entertainment than 2 hours you spend watching Raabta.
