My Cousin Rachel Movies Reviews

The movie has mostly positive reviews with a few who believe it does not deliver. Even then, performances of the cast are widely appreciated as is the cinematography and overall Gothic tone of the movie most appropriate to Daphne Du Maurier’s books. Watch this intense drama if you are in the mood to explore complex personalities and the inter-dynamics as two people of different ages try to decide about trust and love.

“With impeccable period detail, strong character development, superior acting, and a surprisingly fast pace, this film represents welcome counter programming to the typical loud and vacuous summertime multiplex fare.” ~ James Berardinelli, ReelReviews

“It’s all very pretty, but too often the movie’s beauty isn’t tethered to deep feeling or strong ideas, one reason you may often find your eyes and thoughts drifting away from the quietly escalating drama toward the vast green fields, the majestic horses and nice detail work.” ~ Manohla Dargis, The New York Times
