Mexican food has perhaps the closest taste profile to Indian food and most comfortable for Indians traveling to the Americas. Yet, we find it very difficult to get simple Mexican cuisine in India.
The Fiesta month at Hard Rock Cafe, Pune is one place where you will find authentic Tex-Mex all month long. To heighten your Mexican food experience, the restaurant has crafted a special drinks menu too.
If it is Hard Rock Cafe, there has to be music in the whole mix. To make sure you feel and move like a Latino or Latina, the cafe has a special collection of tracks that will dish out the Mariachi tunes. Expect Carlos Santana with his Smooth or Shakira and Ricky Martin to drop in during your evening meal.
So what is this special menu like, hunh? To make Latin drinks, you need a local liquer. And so you have it – amongst the best there is. Hard Rock Cafe, Pune is serving up Jose Cuervo Tequila (Silver) based special drinks all through the month. You can gulp down the shots and chase with Corona or better yet, get it all together with the Mexican Ice Cold Bulldog Margharita.
Tequila has distinctive taste and all the drinks on the menu make sure that this taste is not lost in fruity concoctions. Take your pick. Go for the semi-frozen Margharita and Kiwi combination in Spotty if you want a lemony drink.
Or opt for the Liquid Lust, which has the taste of fresh Orange and the sourness and sharpness of white wine. But even with Cranberry, Lime, and Orange, the Tequila stands out. The cocktail is definitely worth trying.
I love anything with the Chipotle Chili flavor, which is so difficult to get around here. So much so that I still hold on to the spice mix that I brought here years ago.
The Char Grilled Tex-Mex Chicken Skewers have Chicken Fajita strips marinated in Hard Rock Cafe’s Tex-Mex spice mix. The smoky grill flavors along with the chili flavor gives this an authentic Mexican taste.
Latin America is, of course, much more than just Mexican food. And the addition of Chimichurri takes your culinary journey further south.
The Brazilian BBQ Veg Grill Skewers have a very balanced tangy and sweet barbecue sauce. These grilled Cottage Cheese cubes are served on a bed of grilled veggies along with the Chimichurri sauce at the bottom of the hot, sizzling plate. make sure you mix it well to enjoy the Chimichurri flavors.
We were told that the Orange Tequila Prawns are one of the hottest moving dish at the Fiesta. Served in a fried hard Taco shell, the grilled prawns are topped with a Cilantro (coriander) flavored sauce.
Who doesn’t love chocolate? If it is not in the sauce, it has to be on the dessert menu. Although the special menu does not offer a lot of choice in this area, the Sizzlin Skillet Scorch Brownie makes up for the lack of options.
You just can’t wait to dig into the hot molten chocolate oozing from all sides, along with the surprise crunch from bits of Walnuts.
