Koregaon Park is truly the foodie destination of Pune. I don’t think there is any other place in Pune that has so many restaurants in one area. Indian, Italian, Greek, American – you will get the best Pune has to offer in food in Koregaon Park.
Tucked away in the by-lanes of Lane 7, Frisco is the latest addition to spoil you for choice. This new venture comes from a third generation restauranteur who has been running the popular New Yorker in Mumbai for more than two decades.
The cafe style seating is available at two levels and is appropriate to catch a quick bite on weekdays. Their new Healthy menu options also ensure that you have the choice to chuck the rice and go for the Quinoa. Quinoa with Dill Infused Summer Vegetables sounds perfect for low carbers.
Although it is a bit cooler now, sudden temperature changes are not uncommon. On a hot, humid afternoon, Frisco is a cool place with some amazing cold drinks. A fruity Berry-Banana Smoothie could go really well with the Burger or Sandwich and fulfill your daily fruit requirement.
But I would strongly suggest that you try the Thai Iced Tea. Lemon Grass in tea is not new for Indians, but this milky drink is very different in taste and texture from other Iced teas you might have tried earlier.
With so many restaurants, it is difficult to choose one. Moreover, a lot of them offer cuisines from around the world. Frisco does all that and it also has a surprise for you. The Chicken Confit.
Confit is a slow cooked preparation that takes at least 15 hours to be ready. You will not find many restaurants who have slow cooked preparations on their menu every day.
The chicken is cooked to the bone. The slow cooking process ensures that even when the meat is cooked for a long time, the meat remains moist and juicy, something that cannot be achieved in usual quick cooking process.
Served on a bed of veggies, the Jus, sauce, or gravy, whatever you want to call it, is mildly spiced and if you are someone who likes a kick in every bite, this may seem a little bland. But I will still strongly suggest you try the Confit as it is not every day that you come across Chicken Confit on a menu.
If strong spices and tang is your thing, I will suggest you start with the Thai Sweet Chili Baby Potatoes. These pack a solid punch in every bite. Spicy and tangy, they will have you wanting more.
Most multi-cuisine restaurants have a specialty. There is that one cuisine that they do the best. Frisco, on the other hand manages to balance all the cuisines.
The New Yorker Nachos have all the essential ingredients like Jalapenos, beans, salsa and cheese sauce, and sour cream. However, I would like to see a thicker, more cheesy cheese sauce.
One other thing that separates Frisco from other multi-cuisine restaurants in general and in Koregaon Park is that Frisco has a big range of vegetarian dishes. It was only a couple of weeks ago that we were discussing how we have a proliferation of restaurants serving food from around the world. However, it is quite difficult to find innovative vegetarian dishes prepared using authentic ingredients in most of these multi-cuisine restaurants. But vegetarians, you now have Frisco with impressive choices on their menu – Thai, American, and Lebanese too.
The Hummus with Toasted Pita, in the Small Plates section gives you a taste of the Middle East. Flavored with Beets, the pink Hummus dish balances the lemon-garlic flavor well with the beetroot.
Apart form the fabulous Chicken Confit, the Big Plates section also offers choice of Thai food. The Thai Vegetable Curry is the Green curry with a strong taste of Kaffir Lime leaves. It is easily one of the best Thai curries I have had in Pune.
And if you want something more than a starter and something less than the mains, there is always pizza. The thin crust Verdure comes with a three cheese blend and a slightly different pizza sauce.
Any good meal must end with a dessert. The special for the day at Frisco was Tiramisu. It was made using authentic cheese. The coffee flavor was just right, accentuated by a Coffee Liqueur soaked base.
With a specials menu, healthy options, and a range of vegetarian options, Frisco in Koregaon Park seems determined to give their customers many choices and keep them satisfied. So go on and try that truly succulent Chicken Confit.
