Gautamiputra Satakarni story takes an episode from the life of real-life ruler and revolves around the war with Greek invaders. There is a assassination attempt on Gautamiputra, which enrages him and propels him into the war. Gautamuputra is raised by Gautami Balashri (Hema Malini). The first part of the movie builds towards portrayal of Gautamiputra as the violent and ruthless ruler. This aggressive upbringing is challenged by his wife, who wants him to make peace instead of war.

Nandmuri Balakrishna gives a good performance along with Shriya Saran, who adapts well to her new role. Would have definitely loved to see more of Hema Malini. Though short, she gives a powerful performance in the movie. There is no doubt that Baahubali fans will love this epic drama based on History of Deccan. Some graphics do not pass the muster, but on the whole you have a good experience and are transported to a different era. Costumes and battle sets are grand and this is one movie you should watch in theateres.
Overall, Gautamiputra Satakarni film is a great experience and the glimpse into a different world portrayed well is the one reason you should watch this movie.
