Tanu Weds Manu Returns: Movie Review

Can four years of marriage turn you into a violent, inconsiderate husband? Well . . . It can! And you are drawn into the world of Tanu and Manu.

This starting scene in a mental asylum – I am not sure why would anyone go to an asylum for couple’s counseling, but what do I know – spirals into bizarre events involving almost all the characters of the previous movie and some new ones. Humorous situations and witty dialogues ensure that you do not have the time to let your thoughts wander. However, you do wonder at some point what this double-role will throw up in the end. Is there a catch here?

Tanu Weds Manu Returns covers a range of different topics, from troubled marriage on the verge of divorce to artificial insemination. Datto and Manu’s  brief romance is short-lived as the traditional Haryanvi girl is very serious about where things are going and wants a concrete answer from Manu. A glimpse of Haryana is a welcome change, which otherwise is mostly in the news for Khap killings.

The music is not very inspiring and won’t make you yearn for the soundtrack. But it is good enough to not bother you.

Overall, the movie is a complete entertainer. It is not as bad as Gabbar is Back, but also not a must-watch like Piku. If you have been planning for a weekend movie that didn’t happen for some time, Tanu Weds Manu Returns is  a safe choice that will make you laugh and keep you entertained.
