Dishoom Movie Review

The movie hasn't turned out the way I thought it would. But that is not necessarily bad. To get to the point, I will say the movie is more humorous than thrilling. Having said that, it is one of the best action-comedies Bollywood has come up with in recent times. There isn't even a thread of seriousness to the whole affair. Akshay Kumar plays his cameo flawlessly and it is hard to not laugh at his effeminate manners. For a change, humor comes more from intelligent script, than jokes made on disabilities and antics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMXEUx9uGUQ The only attempt to make the kidnapping of the batsman a matter of national importance is made funny when a high ranking government official proclaims that the news would cause riots in India - that is not only outlandish, but also trivializes the reasons that usually cause widespread riots. Apart from that, performances by John Abraham and Varun Dhawan do not seemed forced and they easily slide into the character. The amount of smoking stills in the movie make you think that there is a huge investment made by the Indian Tobacco lobby in the movie. Kabir also sends a strong message that it is macho to break rules and regulations related to smoking, when the character could have communicated the same with any other type of behavior. Akhaye Khanna does a decent job, but doesn't get a lot of opportunity to be menacing or threatening. Officer Saeed is another actor in this whole movie who shines and gives a good performance. John Abraham and Varun Dhawan play the usual Bad Cop-Good Cop routine with the kind of humor that reminds of the Rush Hour franchise.  And this one too has the onscreen chemistry to take forward with new adventures of Kabir and Junaid. However, the action part is forgettable and will not give the audiences any thrills. The climactic chase on the sidecar is poor and it seems the bad guy is more interested in helping Junaid rescue Parvati/Pakiza than shake him off his sidecar. The movie flows quite well and the short two hours ensure that you won't be bored or distracted during the movie. Jacqueline slides in and out of the movie effortlessly and plays her part quite well. Overall, I will say that it is a good entertainer that will ensure that you walk out of the theaters laughing.   Dishoom Trailer Take a look at the fast paced Dishoom movie trailer. The trailer clearly hints at a betting angle to the whole kidnapping episode. Expect explosive and loud two hours in the movie halls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU6IdS2gVog
