Monster follows Steve Harmon, an aspiring filmmaker from Harlem as he gets entangled in a legal system that has already labeled him a monster.
Seventeen year old Steve Harmon is a honors student and an aspiring filmamker from a reputed school. Growing up in a loving family and liked by her teacher, this man’s world comes crashing down when he is arrested for a murder and put on trial.
The prosecutor sees and paints him as a monster, his family see him as a promising young man destined for great things, his teacher sees him as an intelligent and inquisitive artist, his cell mates see him as an opportunity to cut a deal for themselves.
The movie shows us what it’s like to be a bewildered Black teen plucked from everyday life and thrust into the penal system as we follows his dramatic journey from a smart, likeable film student from Harlem attending an elite high school through a complex legal battle that could leave him spending the rest of his life in prison.
