Now, Kapoor & Sons is a movie I have been planning to see for the last few weeks. Not that it has an earth shattering story, or anything new. It is just that the tightly edited theatrical trailers promised a lot of fun. Rishi Kapoor at the top of a dysfunctional family pyramid is at his best. The make-up of the character is awesome and it is almost difficult to identify who the real actor is.
Brothers Rahul and Arjun Kapoor return to their ancestral home after five years to live with their family. As if that is not enough to create friction, they both fall in love with exuberant Tia. The movie blends different emotions very well and immerses the viewers in the story and the scene. The naturally played out scenes can make viewers identify with many situations and that adds an additional dimension to the movie.
Kapoor and Sons (2016)
Director: Shakun Batra
Stars: Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt, Siddhart Mlahotra, Rishi Kapoor
The name Kapoor & Sons itself makes it clear that it is going to be a family affair. Alia Bhatt as Tia continues to execute the character of a bubbly, clueless college girl without a problem. The supporting cast of Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak make the movie that much more enjoyable and leaves very little room to find fault.
Although the story feels like a mash-up of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Dil Dhadakne Do, Fox Star Productions assure that the execution is flawless. I have increasingly become a fan of Fox Star Productions. from Jolly LLB to Agent Vinod to now Kapoor & Sons, the studio brings its unique signature to every movie they take up.
Kapoor and Sons is surely a must-watch movie and an excellent choice to spend time with your family at the mall this weekend. After a disappointing last couple of weeks Kapoor & Sons gives movie lovers a reason to hit the theaters again.
