At a time when the US is polarized more than ever before and government has taken extreme steps to put kids and teenagers in various camps, The Darkest Minds movie brings a dystopian story set in current time that can easily be true. We follow a group of kids who are running from the government to find a safe place to live, although aware that their lives will never be the same.

The movie is adapted from the novel of the same name by Alexandra Bracken and is part of a YA Trilogy. Jennifer Yuh Nelson of Kung Fu Panda franchise directs the movie with Amandla Stenberg of The Hunger Games in the lead role as Ruby.

The Darkest Minds Movie Plot
The Darkest Minds movie is set in current times in a world where 98 percent of kids have died because of a mysterious illness. When Ruby, one of the few survivors, wakes up on her tenth b’day, something about her has changed. The change in her is alarming enough to make her parents lock her up in the garage and call the police.
She is arrested and sent to Thurmond, a brutal government rehabilitation camp for kids like her. Here she meets more like her who have survived the mystery illness but have developed frightening abilities that they cannot control.
Ruby is has one of the most dangerous abilities among the kids and barely manages to escape the camp alive. In search for a safe haven, she lands in East River, the only place where kids like her can be safe. Here she meets others like her who have escaped from camps across the country and meets their leader Liam.
But their attraction fro each other has one big hurdle, Ruby’s lethal abilities and she refuses to allow him to come near her. But soon, the politics of the fight dawns on Ruby and she realizes that the safe haven might not be just that. Caught between the government and leaders of East River, Ruby must make the difficult choice to decide if she wants to join them in the fight against her government.
