Wings by Danielle Steel

wings danielle steel

Talking about Danielle Steel is like taking a walk down memory lane. I read The Promise in my teens, and I still remember the impact it had on me. Although all her books are not available on the Kindle, Wings book is one of my favorites that is. Danielle Steel ruled the 1980s and 1990s and gave us a glimpse into the world of the rich and the famous, and the passions that ruled their lives. Wings brings a more down to earth protagonist, but has love and heartbreak at its core.

Wings Book Synopsis

Wings book by Danielle Steel follows Cassie. From a house on the edge of her family’s dusty farmland airstrip near Chicago, the child Cassie O’Malley would sneak into the night to look at the planes sitting shimmering in the moonlight. Her World War I veteran father, Pat, wanted his son to be a pilot, not his reckless, red-haired daughter. But it was Cassie who had the gift.

Ever since she could remember, Cassie felt the pull of getting in a cockpit and taking to the skies. Observing all the while was her father’s junior partner, Nick “Stick ” Galvin, a fellow war ace and airborne daredevil. Nick would become her confidant and best friend, willing to break all the rules to teach her to fly, knowing that the greatest gift he could give her was the freedom of flying.

Wings Book Review

Cassie O’Malley has grown up around planes. Her war veteran dad owns a private airfield near Chicago but is against his daughter becoming a pilot. Nick works for her dad and is much older, and takes Cassie under his wing. He teaches her to fly and soon Cassie is winning medals in air shows. It doesn’t take long for her to be noticed and soon she is famous and married to a rich tycoon. But she has always loved Nick. As war looms again, Nick and Cassie both sign up for the Air Force. Will they survive to see each other again?

Wings book story seemed reminiscent of Amelia Earhart’s life. It was impossible to not be affected by Cassie’s character, especially as an impressionable youngster. I drifted away from reading Danielle Steel books sometime during the turn of the century. But there is no doubt this is one great prolific author that you must read if you like the romance genre. Relationships and family dynamics are at the heart of any Danielle Steel book, and Wings book is no exception.
