Dharma productions announced its latest movie, The Ghazi Attack, and released the movie’s poster on Navy Day. The movie is scheduled to release on 17th February 2017 and is being made simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi with Rana Daggubati in the lead role. The Ghazi Attack movie will also be dubbed in Tamil and released worldwide in three languages.
Bollywood has made various movies based on Indo-Pak and Indo-China wars, however, this will be the first film to explore the role of Indian Navy in a movie. It will also be the first submarine thriller by the Hindi movie industry.

The Ghazi Attack Movie Story
Ghazi, originally named Diablo was a long-range, fast-attack, Tench-class submarine built by the US and was handed over to Pakistan Navy in the early 1960s. It was the first submarine operating in South Asia and posed a serious threat to India. The submarine was active in the first Indo-Pak war but could not do any damage, nor was it caught. When India ordered aircraft carrier INS Vikrant to the Eastern coast, Ghazi was sent into the Bay of Bengal to damage INS Vikrant.
The Ghazi Attack movie story opens in this backdrop and follows crew of S-21 or INS Karanj Kalvari-Class submarine commissioned in September 1969. INS Kranj is sent to Bay of Bengal waters to identify the position of PNS Ghazi. Its mission is to shadow the underwater vessel and send the data back to the Naval headquarters.
But the aggressive commander of the sub has other plans. He forces his crew to pursue and destroy the Pakistan Sub and gives away his position. His philosophy is adopted by by the subordinate officer later who lose sight of their mission and embark on a chase that nearly gets the crew killed.
The Ghazi Attack Movie Review
The Ghazi Attack picks a very good topic. It is fresh and never before seen kind of movie in Bollywood. However, it sticks to Bollywood tactics and packs more drama than thrill. The cat and mouse game you would expect from the movie is missing in the movie where emotions take precedence over everything else.
The movie boasts of a stellar supporting cast. But once again good actors like Kay Kay Menon fail to make an impact. The movie touches on all the typical Submarine movie tropes like mutiny on the ship, on-board emergencies, difference of opinion between the commander and subordinate. These incidents seem forced and do not seem to flow with ease. The movie also touches upon various strategic and moral considerations, but none of these are explored in depth. However, the performances and dialogues do not make you side for any one faction.
Emotions seems to be the driving point for everyone’s actions. If you believe in the movie, Indian navy functions on emotions and not on strategic objectives. By the time the enemy sub sinks you are more happy that the ordeal of watching the movie is over than about the victory.
The only thing that works for ‘The Ghazi Attack’ is its attempt to make something different. But it fails to make a edge-of-the-seat thriller with disappointing performances.
