Rustom Movie Story
Rustom is another true life incident inspired movie that Akhay Kumar will release this year, after Airlift. This one is about the murder of the wife's boyfriend by a naval officer. Commander K. M. Nanavati Vs. State of Maharashtra was a landmark case in the history of Indian judicial system. Landmark because, the outcome of the case forced the country to stop the jury system in Indian courts. This story forms the core of the movie. Rustom Pavri (Akshay Kumar) is a Naval Officer who falls in love. But after they get married, his work takes him away and creates a rift in their relationship. When he finds out that his wife is having an affair, Rustom kills her boyfriend, Vikram. Rustom is arrested and tried by a jury. However, his lawyers and sympathizers paint a picture of him as a patriotic officer and a simple and honest man. The jury is influenced by the social projection of the man behind the crime and absolves him in spite of the crime.
Rustom Movie Review
Rustom slowly builds up to the interval and you will see a more aggressive avatar of the actor in the second half of the movie. the early screening viewers have dubbed them movie as a thriller in some countries and call it one of the best movies of 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJYrgGCLT3w But we do not agree. Rustom fails on multiple counts. To begin with, the graphics and old-fashioned sets of the movie are very poor and the director could have just done without those shots. For a movie that has court drama at its core, the court proceedings are too lame. Sachin Khedekar makes a mess of prosecution lawyer, unless a bumbling lawyer was the persona the director intended to show. The movie has its humorous moments, like a vendor selling 'Vikram Towel' jo kabhi nahi girta. Only, the revelation related to the towel happens in court after this scene - but, I guess, the vendor had a source close to Rustom Pavri that no one knows of. Another thing that will jump at you is the closing statement and argument of the prosecution which passionately argues that it is a pre-panned murder and not a crime of passion. But Hey! Hold on. Didn't Rustom argue that the murder was in fact self-defense? where does the question of crime of passion arise here? But for all the faults and flaws in the movie, Akshay Kumar shoulders the disaster on his shoulders quite well. The movie doesn't bore you outright. The hidden angle and story of corruption is another unnecessary and under-developed part of the movie that does not contribute to the court proceedings in any way. Overall, the movie is average at best. But you might sit through and even like it if you are a Akshay Kumar fan and looking at him fro two hours is good enough for you.
Rustom Movie Trailer
Although based on the story of Nanavati, the movie clearly has something more going in the background that is not talked about or shown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L83qMnbJ198
