Jackfruit Shami Kabab Ingredients

Cutting the Jackfruit and getting out the meaty parts is perhaps the most tedious and time consuming task of this recipe. So be prepared for high prepping time. If you can get your jackfruit cut from the vendor, you can reduce the amount of time spent on the recipe.

  • 2 Cups cooked jackfruit flesh (minus the seeds and petals)
  • 1 cup soaked Chana dal
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 2 Tbsp Chopped mint leaves
  • 2 Cloves
  • 5-8 Peppercorns
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 1 Cardomom
  • 1 Tbsp Garam Masala
  • 1 Tbsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Besan
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to Taste

How to Make Jackfruit Shami Kebab

Making this Jackfruit Shami Kabab recipe is a multiple step process. It will take more time to prepare the various sub-parts of the recipe than actually making the kabas. So this is where you begin and start making our Jackfruit Shami Kabab recipe.

  1. Mix the soaked chana daal with equal parts water and the dry whole spices and half a tsp of salt and cook until it is tender. If you are cooking under pressure, one pressure whistle is enough.
  2. Let the Chana daal cool down. In the mean time, squeeze out all the water from the cooked jackfruit flesh.
  3. Pick out all the whole spices from the chana daal, and mix the daal with the jackfruit flesh.
  4. Add the Garam masala, Chili powder, onion, mint leaves and knead it into a slightly chunky dough.
  5. Now add the salt and Besan to make dough that you can roll into ping-pong sixed balls
  6. Heat the oil and start rolling out the kababs
  7. Flatten them and roll them lightly in Beasan, if needed.
  8. Fry the kababs for a couple of minutes and drain them on a paper towel. As most of the ingredients in the dough are cooked, you don’t have to fry these for a long time.
