Hindi Medium Movie Story
Story of Hindi Medium movie revolves around a middle-class couple who wants to give their child what they think is lacking in their lives. The wife thinks that ability to speak fluent English will open more avenues for her child and help her do better in life. With this aim in mind, the two begin their hunt for a good school for the young girl.
But what is now common, interview of parents is more important than the interview of the child. In the race to top school rankings, schools increasingly admit students that they think can do better and leave out those who appear to be struggling. In this, they forget that the quality of school should not be measured by their rank in charts, but by how many struggling students they have managed to improve.
The movie highlights these and other similar issues, like the pathetic state of our public schools, that have made school admissions process a mess in India. Whether you are aiming to get an admission under RTE or willing to spend a fortune, the right to admission is reserved by the school and the criteria is ad hoc.
Hindi Medium Review
Hindi Medium reviews from early screening are in a day before its release. Although the movie has received mixed reviews, performances of the actors are widely applauded. The film makes various commentaries by touching on multiple subjects from unreasonable desire to put children in ‘International’ school to highlighting the lengths to which a parent will go to get admission in a famous school.
The movie also makes a comment on the shoddy state of RTE implementation and how it is or can be misused as every other government scheme in a country where morals are on the decline. But it might feel that the movie takes up too many issues and packs then in a shirt film, issues that have the potential to stand on their own.
Preachy at times, the movie is still enjoyable if you like to watch satirical drama, one like Well Done Abba, Irrfan Khan, of course, brings his trade mark performance to add to this funny, yet important film.
