Baar Baar Dekho Story

Baar Baar Dekho is a romantic drama that spans 60 years of lives of the main characters in the movie. If locations in the movie are any indication the story should span from Galsgow, Scotland to Krabi, Thailand. Although Sidharth Malhotra has confirmed that the movie is not a Science Fiction, or does not include time travel, the movie shows various timelines or parts of the characters’ lives.

From what we can gather, the movie indulges in various simulations or What If? scenarios where the characters get to live different lives based on the decisions that they make. So we can say that it is a Sci-Fi Romance at some level. Both the original title of the movie and the current one suggests what would you life be like if you could simulate the outcome of your every decision.

Baar Baar Dekho Review

A good film maker can make a movie covering one night or even just a few hours riveting and leave you dazed. Nitya Mehra has managed to take sixty years of a man’s life and made a movie that will leave you dazed or I should say dozing.

“Logic agar har baat samjha deta to baat hi kuch aur  thi”

That is the mantra of this utterly illogical and non-entertaining movie. Baar Baar Dekho is not even Ek baar dekho.

The movie begins with the two poised to get married when Jai realizes that his career is more important for him. With the help of some mumbo jumbo, he begins to get glimpses of his future life with Diya, which oscillates between good times and bad times. Jai gets to travel back and forth in future to identify the problems which landed him alone, without a family at the end of his life.

If you thought the first one hour didn’t really take off, you are in for a lot more pain. After two iterations of this waking up in the future scenario, you begin to think – OK! I get it, move on dude!

As for the glimpse into the 2034+ years, the most futuristic you get is digital displays with touch screen. I don’t expect you to innovate, but you could at least show a driverless car.

If telling people that they should take time out of their work to attend to their family life was the message, the writer takes a really longwinded route to tell you that you should live in the moment and cherish what you have.

I don’t even want to talk about Jai’s character painted as mathematical genius. I say, if you are not ready to dig deep and say or show something really worthwhile, don’t bother to go there. Thankfully, Jai was never shown teaching.

I am sure you will at least get a few laughs out of this week’s other new release, Freaky Ali.
