Cooking is a lot of fun. It requires multiple skills and love to explore and experiment. But even the most motivated home chefs and cooks need some inspiration and motivation every now and then to keep them going. I needed a little nudge and chef Saransh Goila’s (@SaranshGoila) cooking demonstration did a fabulous job this week. In Pune for AXN TOP CHEF (@AXNIndia), Mr. Goila chose some of the recipes presented by TOP CHEF winners and contestants and recreated them for cooking enthusiasts at Godrej Nature’s Basket in Koregaon Park, Pune.
The three Top Chef recipes Chef Saransh cooked live were Macarons with Guacamole and Corn Puree, Quinoa Pasta with Salsa Verde and Gremolata and Jerk Salmon with Cilantro Vinaigrette. Chef Goila said, “I started following AXN’s Top Chef since I was a student so the experience of creating the dishes from the show live at Nature’s Basket was very exciting. While it looks easy on screen, when you actually create it live you understand the efforts that goes into preparing it. For me as a chef, it’s always a learning curve to cook somebody else’s recipe.”

The event was super successful with food enthusiasts of different ages from an 8 year old boy to home chefs trying their hand at the art of making Macarons. Chef Goila conducted an interactive workshop and invited the audience to help him make Macarons. He also passed around the Jerk seasoning spice mix for the foodies assembled at the event to give them an idea of what Jerk seasoning should smell like, along with how it should taste.
Macarons with Guacamole sandwiched on a bed of corn puree was an appetizer that you would love to make at your next party. The crumbly, sweet Macarons melted in your mouth and tasted awesome with the chunky Guac. Chef Goila also shared many tips along the way, and stressed that while there is some wiggle room in making the recipes, baking recipes are not one of them.
Ingredients are one of the most important parts of making a good dish. The Salmon, from Godrej Nature’s Basket, no doubt added to the flavor of Jerk seasoning. If you love to eat fish, the Salmon at the store is a must-try. Though chef Goila did say that you can use any fish you like. And if you don’t like eating fish, you can always fall back on good old chicken to try the Jerk seasoning and bring flavors of the Caribbean home.
The Cooking demonstration by Chef Goila with AXN TOP CHEF at Godrej Nature’s Basket was a super hit. Chef Goila will be making another cooking demonstration in Mumbai on May 11 2017.
