Salman Khan Movies of the 90s
I am sure you have all seen these Salman Khan movies, but for those who haven’t here is list of movies that made Salman a heartthrob of million in the 90s.
Maine Pyar Kiya
Sooraj Barjatiya has a big hand in making Salman Khan a star. His first movie with Salman Khan was a super-hit and inspired a cult following. The movie tells a story of two childhood friends, one goes on to become a rich businessman, while the other livens in meager circumstances. When the daughter of one goes to live at the rich friend’s house, his son fall s in love with her.
This is not appreciated by those who oppose to the union. Insults and accusations fly thick and fast in this family-drama as romance between Prem and Suman takes the center stage.
Baaghi
One of Salman’s earliest projects, the movie’s story too was conceptualized by Salman Khan. Baaghi is the story of an innocent girl caught up in a prostitution racket.
Saajan (Salman Khan) falls in love with Kajal (Nagma) on his way to begin a new year at college. But he forgets about this one-off encounter. When he is coaxed to go to a brothel with his friends, he sees Kajal being beaten up by the pimp who has abducted her and forced her into prostitution. The movie explores if normal life is possible for a girl returning from a brothel and the many difficulties she must face.
Patthar Ke Phool
After introducing Nagma into Bollywood, Salman worked with another debutante in Patthar ke Phool. This time with Raveena Tondon.
Like many movies in the 80s and 90s, this one too is a story of forbidden love. Suraj and Kiran fall in love, but their past soon catches up with them. With powerful, hidden forces at work to keep them apart, their dream seems to crumble under the force. The story progresses with many twists and turns as Suraj tries to rescue Kiran from the evil forces and be with his love interest.
Love
A remake of Telugu movie, Love was one of the good movies that didn’t do too well at the Box Office. Prithvi (Salman) is a killer. Not a willful killer though. Jailed as juvenile for killing his father, Prithvi is shunned by the society at large. Tormented by his abusive father, Prithvi is unable to see other people hurt and abused.

A volatile Prithvi falls in love with Maggie (Revathi), who tends to calm him down. But his criminal past makes any chance of their union impossible. As Maggie rebels against her parents, a vicious cycle of actions and counteractions is unleashed. An emotional Romance-Drama, the movie explores love, bias, and expectations of parents.
Saajan
Starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, and Salman Khan, Saajan was one of the biggest hits of 90s. The movie soundtrack was also a hit and the songs made it to the top lists for a long time. Aman and Akash are childhood friends and later brothers, as Akash’s parents adopt disabled Aman.
Akash grows up to be a spoilt child and a womanizer, while Aman is a reclusive poet. Their relationship comes under strain when Akash falls for Pooja, who has fallen in love with an unknown poet Sagar (Aman’s alias). The movie explores love and presumed debt that Aman thinks he owes to Akash and his family.
Andaz Apna Apna
Easily one of the best comedies of 90s, Andaz Apna Apna now has a strong cult following. Childish antics of Amir Khan and Salman Khan will keep you laughing throughout this wonderful situational comedy.

Amar and Prem have run away from their home to make it big in the city. When they come across the news that a rich girl is looking for a suitable husband, they both plan to meet this girl and make her fall for them.
Hum Aapke Hai Kaun
Sooraj Barjatiya returns to Slaman Khan after a long time as he pairs him with Madhuri Dixit. With a strong supporting cast of the old team of Reema Laggo, Alok Nath, and Monish Bahl, Hum Apke Hain Kaun was a throwback to the classic Roamantic Comedy of yesteryear.
It was the highest grossing film of the 90s and still is one of the topmost earning movies in Bollywood. Romance, Drama, family feuds, the movie has all the ingredients of a family entertainer that you can all sit back and enjoy. Definitely one of the must-watch movies of Salman Khan.
Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya
Salman Khan acts in this romantic comedy along with his brother Arbaaz Khan and Kajol. Muskan (Kajol) has grown up under the watchful eye of her brother on their farm. When she decides to take up higher studies in the city, she is allowed to go reluctantly. Charmed by a back-bencher at her college, Muskan falls in love with Suraj (Salman).

But her brother sees Suraj as a frivolous individual who has no future and is worthless. He takes Muskan back to the farm and forbids her to meet Suraj. Although nothing new, a strong supporting cast and good performances make this movie a delightful two plus hours.
Biwi No. 1

David Dhawan gave us a lot of comedies in the 90s. Some good some bad. Biwi No. 1 is a romantic comedy centered around Prem’s (Salman Khan) extra marital affair with Rupali (Sushmita Sen). A classic tale of a man realizing that his wife is an all-weather friend, while a fling cannot last beyond a point when material benefits dry up.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
A romance drama with Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai, Salman plays a musician. Sameer (salman) comes to stay with his music teacher and his family in Gujrat to learn from the maestro. Here he falls in love with his daughter Nandini, but faces stiff opposition from her parents.
Nandini is then married off to someone else she doesn’t love and has no feelings for. Love is a funny thing, just when you think you can never fall in love with anyone else, life makes the unthinkable real.
