Tumhari Sulu Story
Mrs. Sulochana Ashok is presented as a bored housewife who aspires to have some career and yearns for her elder twin sisters’ and father’s approval all the time. Her educational track records and previous attempt do not inspire a lot of faith. But that doesn’t stop our bubbly behenji from having dreams and go for them.
Tumhari Sulu follows Sulochana as she after thinking of different things, decides to try her ad becoming a RJ. Without experience and persona needed for a typical jockey, Sulu still manages to leave a mark on the powers that be. However, it is only a chance fight with the showproducer that lands her a job of a late-night show, where she need to take over the radio waves with a sexy persona.
This, of course, doesn’t st well with her loving husband and conservative sisters who constantly insult her about her choice of her job and advise her to resign. Other domestic issues too add fuel to this arguement. However, Sulu triumphs over them to continue with the job and identity she was always desperate for.
Tumhari Sulu Movie Review
On paper this looks like a great story, though slightly late – we had tons of these in the 70s and 80s Bollywood movies. But that is not the real problems here. Nor is Vidya Balan’s perfromance, which is very well supported by Manav Kaul.
The biggest problem of the movie is lack of a good story line. Without a conflict or an tension, our Hero has nothing to fight for. There is no resistance form her husband, nor does she have any financial problems that drive her, other than, of course, her desire.
This lack of strong motivation or conflict is the reason why you never get invested in Sulus story. The performances and jokes and the casual glimpses of Sulu’s life all are fascinating, but you are forced to think about where all of this is going?
So if you are a Vidya Balan fan, and a taut or meaningful story is not something you look for in a movie watch Tumhari Sulu. Otherwise, it is better to wait until it pops up on some digital platform.
