Thieves of the Wood Plot
Thieves of the Wood series follows Jan as he returns home to find is home occupied and family banished and vows to fight the occupiers.
Set in 1747, the series begins with Jan, a mercenary, returning to his home to Aalst. Back home, her finds that his home lands are occupied by French army. His family and friends are labled outlaws and banished to the forests.
Jan decides to band together the ramshackle band of robbers and thieves in the forest with his half-brother. But in a country suffering under the yoke of poverty and exploitation, there’s hardly anything left worth taking. Moved by these harsh living conditions, Jan manages to convince Tincke to see the bigger picture.
Instead of stealing from each other, they should rob those who actually have money: the rich and the collaborators consorting with the French occupiers. John’s ideas start to resonate and when a stagecoach is raided successfully, the ragtag bunch of scallywags develops into a real gang.
