The Bride Wore Blue by Cheryl Bolen is a fast paced Regency story about a self made nabob who pines after a beautiful lady who saved his life. Thomas Moreland survived a brutal attack and prospered in India earning a large fortune. He is now back in England hoping to meet his lady love.
The fair Felicity is now living a widow’s life in reduced circumstances. She is trying hard to manage a vagrant brother who keeps incurring gambling debts, and a younger sister who can’t wait for her debut. Felicity has made her home in Bath after losing their family estate to debt and taxes after her father’s death. She receives an unusual proposition from the latest entrant to Bath society. Thomas Moreland offers to repay all her debts and also provide her family with an allowance if Felicity will agree to sponsor his sister Diana. Reluctantly, Felicity agrees, expecting boorish behavior from the over confident Moreland. But his polite behavior and Diana’s pleasant company soon wins everyone over.
Colonel Gordon has been interested in Felicity and has pressed his suit several times without success. He holds a sinister secret and is annoyed to see competition in the form of Moreland. As Felicity attends various social events with the Morelands, she finds herself falling in love with the dark stranger. Her sister Glee is up to some mischief, and brother George has set his cap for the pretty Diana.
Will Felicity recognize Moreland as the young stranger whose life she had saved? Will Colonel Gordon succeed in his nefarious schemes? And will the two lead characters gather enough courage to profess their love for one another?
The Bride Wore Blue has a slightly different story line that will leave the reader engrossed. Even though the plot has the usual hero, heroine, villain, vamp etc. the book is an easy read. Romance lovers and Regency lovers will love this first book in the Brides of Bath series by Cheryl Bolen.
