Summer is time for vacations, mangoes, and having fun all day long. And an important part of that routine are movies. Watching slasher or slasher-Horror movies in the day and discussing those in the darkness of the night during a trip to the woods were one of the typical summer activities.

Here are some of the movies that will give you the chills and thrills all summer long.

1. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was a big hit in the 70s and in a way one of the first slasher movies that started this trend. The film follows a group of friends are visiting a homestead and attacked by a group of cannibals. The movie was marketed as a true story and garnered a lot of attention. It was also banned in many countries because of the extreme violence. A must watch for slasher movie lovers.

2. Scream

Sidney Prescott a high-school student at Woodsboro, California is targeted by a mysterious killer. The movie was loosely based on the Gainesville Ripper – a serial killer who killed five students in Gainesville, Florida – and combined multiple genre approaches. The viewers experience the thrill of the Horror genre and suspense of classic whodunit mystery from the movie.

3. Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is perhaps one of the longest running Horror/Slasher movie frachise. First released in 1980. The story is about Jason Voorhees who drowned in the Crystal Lake camp grounds. The lake is now believed to be cursed, and is the location of several mass murders. Each movie has a different sub-plot, but Jason is either the perpetrator or an instigator of the murderer.

4. Saw

Two men awake bound in ankle shackles, locked in a bathroom. They both want to get out. But one is on a mission – not to just save himself, but also his family. To save his family, he has been ordered to kill the other.

A tabe found in the bathroom gives them clues to some saws hidden in the tank. Armed and eager to save their lives, these two must find out a way to cut through the chains and find a way out.

5. Child’s Play

Serial killer Charlse Lee Ray is on the run. Pursued by cops, he is fatally wounded and in a desperate attempt transfers his soul to a doll in a departmental store. The doll soon finds a home with a small by and his mother. Now named, Chucky, Charles Ray goes on a killing spree. The police blame little Andy for everything, until more evidence and events unfold.

6. The Ring

The movie is based on a novel Ring by Koji Suzuki.  Katie and her boyfriend watch a videotape at a campsite a week earlier. Later, Katies and Becca discuss the urban legend that says that if you watch this tape, you die within seven days of the event. A few minutes later Katie dies. The fate of all those who watch that tape now hangs in balance.

The Ring received overall positive reviews with 72 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

7. Final Destination

I am guilty of watching the FInal Destination marathon all day long. A group of friends are scheduled to travel to Europe on a flight. Just before boarding the flight Alex has visions of different actions on the flight and then sees the flight exploding mid-air.

Spooked by the premonition, ALex demands to get down from the flight and in the process gets all his friends off the flight to, against their wishes. But aas they are squabbling over the events, the flight takes off and explodes in the air minutes after take-off. The movies explores the concept of death, avoiding death, and, future and destiny.

8. Halloween

Another classic Slasher-Horros film, Halloween was released in 1978. In a fictional town, Haddonfield, six year old Michael Myers murders his sister on the Halloween night with a kitchen knife. Now, after fifteen years, Michael has escaped from the asylum and back in Haddonfield for more.

9. I Know What You Did Last Summer

The movie is based on a novel by the same name and was released in 1997. I Know What You Did Last Summer is another classiv American Slasher movie. Four friends on a drive on a dark night hit someone on the highway. They ignore who or what they hit and run from he scene of the accident. Now, a year later, they are stalked by someone who threatens them with knowledge of what they were involved in the earlier summer.

10. When a Stranger Calls

A remake of 1979 horror film, When Stranger Calls centers around Jill Johnson. While babysitting, Jills starts to get calls from a stranger. As time passes the calls get more threatening and alarming. After some tense minutes, and police work, Jill realizes that the calls are coming from inside the house.
