Sea Scoundrel by Annette Blair: High Jinx on the High Seas

Sea Scoundrel is a fun filled dose of romance and adventure on the high seas and is a must read. The exasperating Lady Patience Kendall meets her match in Captain Grant, and spends weeks being frustrated with him on an Atlantic crossing. The story and the characters will win you over, and you will want to read more long after the book ends.

Sea Scoundrel Book review

Lady Patience has been raised by a strict aunt who was always highly critical. She runs away to America for a marriage of convenience but her hopes are dashed when her fiance dies before her arrival. She somehow falls on her feet and has now undertaken to chaperone four young ladies to England to find them rich husbands. She meets the infuriating Captain Grant who knows she doesn’t really know the Marquess of Andover. The sea men think women are unlucky and are grumpy with their presence. There is hardly any room for everyone on the ship.

Sophie, Grace, Angel and Rose couldn’t be more different. But they each have some unique qualities. Rose wins the heart of Shane, Captain Grant’s brother. Angel gets friendly with a crew member. Grace remains quiet and Sophie learns every possible skill from the seamen. After weeks of tension, bad weather, horrible accidents and almost mutiny, the ship sails into London. Captain Grant and Patience are friends by now and he tries to smooth their way into the ton.

Lady Patience commits many blunders and social faux pas that might ruin her girls’ reputation. But reinforcements are called in, and each young lady blossoms.

Sea Scoundrel has its share of passion and hot love scenes, much more than I expected. They start pretty early in the book and go on till the end. The chemistry between the captain and his lady is explosive. All the women are strong willed and independent and this leads to funny situations.
