Nora Roberts Land is the first book in the Dare Valley series. It has an engaging plot with lots of romance, some conflict, some intrigue and a mystery in the background. In short, it has something for everyone, just like the books by its namesake.
If you know Nora Roberts, you should have an idea what the title means. Nora Roberts Land is the enchanting world any reader of Nora’s is transplanted to while consuming one of her stories. There are beautiful settings like Montana or Maryland ranches, there are handsome larger than life men who will do anything for love or family, there are strong women who fight for what they believe in, and there is a touch of mystery or fantasy to make it all more interesting. The author has managed to capture all these elements of Nora Roberts’s books in her story.
Meredith Hale comes from a widely known journalistic family. She has cut her teeth in New York and is a respected writer. Currently she is still recovering from her divorce from husband Richard Summerville or ‘Rick the Dick’. Her alter ego wears uber expensive designer bustiers and talks to her, egging her on to act fearlessly. Tanner McBride is a war correspondent who is tired of surviving in Afghanistan. He is back home looking for a cushy job. But the tables are turned on him when Summerville hires him to ensnare Meredith.
Dare Valley is a small town in Colorado. Surrounded by towering mountains, it is the home of the Hale family. Meredith is home and on a mission – to find true love and write about it. Ex husband Richard suspects she has some dirt on him and thinks her stories of ‘true love’ will undermine his political ambitions. Tanner is instantly attracted to Meredith but she won’t go out with a journalist, much to her alter ego’s chagrin.
The peaceful Dare Valley is seeing one too many youngsters in the ER. Arthur Hale, Meredith’s grandpa, is sure that there is some foul play. When the young Jemma, the Hales’s close friend dies suddenly, there is a pall of gloom over the place. Another young man dies under mysterious circumstances and Tanner and the Hales are hot on track to find the culprits.
Meanwhile, Tanner is wearing Meredith down and the sparks are flying. Is there love doomed before it begins? What lies in store for Meredith and Tanner?
Nora Roberts Land will take romance lovers into their favorite territory and you will want to stay within the pages of this book for ever. Notwithstanding it’s reference to a great author, it is a good book and a must read!
