I was introduced to Lily Dalton’s work in Never Desire a Duke. In Never Entice an Earl, we meet Sophia’s sisters Daphne and Clarissa. And the massive Lord Raikes. Regency romance lovers are in for a good story with the some passionate scenes thrown in.
Cormack has slaved in Bengal for several years and earned a fortune. He is now coming back home, eager to reclaim the lands and wealth his family lost. He is greeted by a sad event. His sister is on her deathbed, dying in childbirth and has no information to offer about her condition. The only clue she leaves is a medallion with a Medusa stamped on it with the letters Invisiblis.
The Bevingtons are just getting over the grief of losing the two young males in the family. Lady Harwick is planning a debut ball for Daphne and Clarissa. Daphne’s maid is in trouble and she sneaks off to a bawdy bar. All hell breaks loose there and she is saved by a dashing stranger, none other than Cormack. Concealing her identity, she is shocked when she comes across him in Hyde Park and learns that he is an Earl. The attraction between the two is palpable and many hot kisses ensue.
Meanwhile, Cormack is hot on the track of the Invisiblis. He is getting closer to them and narrows down a few names. Rackmorton is an influential and dangerous member of the ton who has designs on Daphne. Knowing that he is part of the Invisiblis, Cormack warns her to stay away from him. But a chain of events is set in motion which puts Daphne’s life in danger. There are some tense moments before our damsel in distress is rescued.
The end is something that might seem far fetched, but then it all comes together very well. I found myself skipping over a few sections of the book, but the story was intriguing enough. The whole concept of a secret society is delish. Daphne’s suitors are a fun bunch and will make you laugh.
Overall, Never Entice an Earl is good romance with just enough intrigue and thrills thrown in.
