Mardaani 2 Movie Plot

The much-awaited cop thriller sees Rani reprising the role of the fearless and committed Superintendent of Police, Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 2. She had delivered an outstanding performance in the super hit and hugely acclaimed prequel, Mardaani, in which she took on the kingpin of a child trafficking racket.

Mardaani 2 takes Shivani Roy to Rajasthan in Kota. The movie begins with a gruesome crime and she swears to catch the killer. However, the killer is nto the one to cow down and run. Sunny, mentally unstable, or brought up believing that women are meant to be subjugated and if otherwise need to be shown their place, falls for the dynamic cop.

As the game of cat and mouse begins, the movie goes through many twists and turns as the police force appears helpless against a wily opponent.

Mardaani 2 Movie Review

The movie was overall well received and made a good opening. However, we would not call it the best thriller of the year. Here’s our Mardaani 2 review.

The movie begins on a high note and loses no time in reeling in the audience with a gruesome crime and an evil villian who abuses for the enjoyment of it. Vishal Jethwa makes an impressive start. Rani Mukerji too plays the role of a no-nonsense police officer well and the spring in her step and crips movements make it a please to watch.

The movie keeps bringing interesting twists and turns as the looney side of the antagonist is revealed. However, Sunny loses steam as the movie progresses and the talking to camera thing doesn’t work too well.

Because the victims of the crime are random, the audience never get a chance to make an emotional connection to the victims. This probably weighs in on that fact that Vishal Jethwa fails to inspire the hate that his actions should.

The movie derails in the second half as the chase stretches on and on, then suddenly gets preachy about bias against women. It’s not that it isn’t true but this movie is not the place for that sermon. Public flogging seems to be the demand of modern ‘civilized’ India. Not much you can say when a member of upper house demands that. But public flogging here once again runs too long and by the end of it all you are relieved that the movie has finally ended.
