Lost in a Royal Kiss by Vanessa Kelly has a lot of kisses, but I couldn’t see what was royal about them. A short novella, this is a perfect feel good story for bed time.

The story begins in the eighteenth century, 1786 to be precise. Sir Anthony Tait works in the King’s court and seems to be close to the King. Linnet St.Clare comes bounding along in a panic soliciting his help. Anthony secretly admires and likes Linnet and knows she is strong willed. But the latest problem she brings to him is a really tough one. Dominic is a protégé of the king who comes from a poor background and is being raised with the Princes. He is often ridiculed by them. Dominic is in love with Chloe, the rector’s daughter. Fists fly when he comes across one of the Princes raping Chloe. Linnet seeks Anthony’s help in taking care of Dominic and keeping him away from the royals for a few days.

Chloe is to be sent off to a distant uncle to have her child. Dominic and Chloe run away with Linnet and Anthony in hot pursuit. They somehow manage to locate the fleeing kids. Meanwhile, things have grown warmer between Anthony and Linnet. Linnet is not sure if she wants to marry Anthony, and Anthony is enraged by her uncharacteristic independence. Will they ever unite?

The Royals don’t really feature in the story. One can only assume that Chloe’s child will be an ill legitimate offspring of the Royal family. And so the new upcoming series will be about Renegade Royals. The title for this particular book or novella seems misplaced.

Lost in a Royal Kiss is a light weight story you can read any time while you relax before bedtime, or are waiting in your dentist’s office. The true thing to look forward to here is the upcoming books in the series.
