The Innocent Man Series Story
The Innocent Man series tells the story of Ron Williamson. Set in the early 1970s, Roy was the first Major League draft from the State of Oklahoma. After playing the major leagues of six years, Ron returned home to Ada and stayed with his mother.
His life took a dive as he suffered with mental illness, depression as the bad arm and bad habits relegated him to his mother’s couch. In 1982, rape and murder of a local waitress Debra rocked the small town. With no concrete leads and witnesses, the police kept coming back to Ron and his friend Fritz as the main suspects.
The two were finally charged with the crime in 1987, without any physical evidence, and solely on testimony of convicts and prison snitches. Fritz lived, but Ron was sentenced to death.
Interviews with victims’ friends and families, Ada residents, attorneys, journalists, and others involved in the case bring the reality of the events into focus on the docu series on Netflix.
