ABC Family brings us a sleeper hit, chock full of Christmas spirit. Melissa Joan Hart is her usual bubbly self, and Mario Lopez looks all cute and charming. The story is unusual, and this is a sugar laden romance that will work well for Christmas or Valentine’s Day both.

Trudy is a struggling artist who doubles as a waitress. She is under pressure from her parents to get a ‘real career’, and is supposed to meet them for a holiday weekend at a remote mountain cabin. In a fit of nervousness, she kidnaps a customer at the diner, and takes him along as her date.
Two days of holidays work their magic, and Trudy and the guy she kidnapped find common ground. There are other crazy revelations from the parents, the brother and the sister, showing us how thin the veneer we all wear is. Everyone cracks under the stress of the holidays. To top it all, the cops arrive and Trudy’s family is in handcuffs! Will her family forgive her for having to spend Christmas night in jail?
Most TV movies are easy going and kind of predictable. But once in a while, they surprise us with their brilliance. Holiday in Handcuffs is one for all seasons. And it is my favorite for combining all the sentiments of the holidays – hope, cheer, love, family!
