A simple prank to extort money goes haywire and the friends must now join hands and fight for their life. A true thriller, Khiladi is a complete entertainer – from college pranks to kidnapping and murder.

 

2. Kaal

Nature’s fury is not just in earthquakes, tsunamis, and flash floods. You mess with the wild and the unseen and unknown messes with you. A group of friends accompanied by National Geographic correspondent are visiting a wild life reserve to find out why are tigers attacking tourists and are they?

Another thriller, the group of friends must now stick together to get out of the jungle alive, as those accompanying them begin to mysteriously die.

3. Dil Chahta Hai

The movie follows the lives of three friends who find out they are not all good at what they are doing and are forced into something against their will. 5. Rang De Basanti

The movie is narrated through the eyes of a British Filmmaker who wants to do a documentary on Indian Freedom fighters based on a diary of her grandfather. She meets a group of five indifferent friends and enlists them for her documentary.

The friends soon begin to see parallels between the freedom fighters and the current overreaching government and mushrooming fundamentalism and corrupt philosophy taking root in the country. Influenced by the stories of these freedom fighters the friends die to free the society of religious and political dogma.

6. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

Naina Talwar is a studious introvert. One day she realizes that she wants more from life and decides to go on a trek. She reconnects with her old friends that rejuvenates her and finds love.

Yeh Jawaani is a romantic drama that follows life of the group of friends, their decisions and dilemmas in life.

7. Student of the year

With a big cast and mix of new faces like Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhat with veterans like Rishi Kapoor and Farida Jalal, Student of the Year is a story set in a high school.

Yodendra Vashit (Rishi kappoor) – the school dean – is critically ill. A concerned group of friends discuss his health and are reminded to the times and lifelong memories they created during their high school years. A fun and emotional movie, it will take you down the memory lane for sure.

8. Fukrey

Fukrey or Slackers is a coming of age drama that chronicles the life of a group of backbenchers brought together by their dream to get into a prestigious college. They hatch a plan to find a way around the grades requirement to fulfill their dreams.

The movie follows the group as they hatch a plan to get money to get into the college and are caught into a vicious cycle when they get mixed up in drug trade.


9. Kai Po Che!

Literally translated from Gujrati, it means ‘I have cut’. The phrase is mainly used during the kite flying season in January and used to announce cutting the kite thread of an adversary with your kite. The movie is based on Chetan Bhagat’s Three Mistakes of My Life.

The film tells the story of three friends who want to open a sports goods shop and is narrated in the backdrop of Gujrat Earthquake and Godhra riots. It also explores the changing relationship of these three friends during the troubled times.

10. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Another coming of age romantic-drama with an ensemble cast starring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol. The story covers the lives of three friends with busy work life who decide to have a trip of their life and travel to Spain to meet a friend.

Shot in Spain, Egypt, and India, the movie shows childhood friends reconnect with each other and decide to fix all that is wrong in their lives.

11. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, a 90s hit, follows lives of group of friends who decide to compete against the rival team in a bicycle race. Their rivals are better financed, better trained, and better equipped.

Starring Amir Khan and Ayesha Jhulka the movie is set in Dehradun and said to be inspired from Hollywood movie Breaking Away.

12. Rangrezz

Friends have been helping their friends elope and get married for a long time now. It has been part of many movies and also a part of life in India where getting married against the wishes of your family has long been discouraged.

The movie narrates the story of a group of friends who help their buddy get married and in the process get almost killed. One loses his hearing ability, while another loses a leg. But when the eloping couple soon part ways, the lot decides to teach them the importance of love and honoring relationship.

13. Masti

Masti is about a group of three friends who find themselves in a bind. All of them marry in quick succession and find that their wives are not really what they had imagined. The movie showcases different problems of married life with a spectrum common problems.

Fed up with their situation, they decide to relive the good old days and look for a fling. But they eventually fall in love with the same girl, who then decides to blackmail them.

14. Golmaal: Fun Unlimited

A surprise hit at the box office, Golmaal was based on a Marathi Play Ghar-Ghar, used in a Malyalam movie and a Gujrati Play. The four friends are up to no good and get thrown out of college when the scam they are running is exposed.

15. Dhamaal

Dhamaal is a remake of 1963 comedy English movie Mad Mad Mad Mad World. The story is about four good for nothing friends. Boman who is thrown out of his house, a trickster Roy, and two brothers Manav and Adi.

Just when all their Get-Rich-Quick schemes fail, they stumble on a dying crime lord who tells them the location of a hidden treasure worth 10 crores in a Goa park. As they race to the money hitchhiking rides and flagging down buses, police inspector Kabir Nayak pulls out all stops to get to the treasure before they do.
