The Frankenstein Chronicles Series 2 Plot

John Marlott – no longer a mere mortal, Marlott’s purpose is to seek revenge on Lord Daniel Hervey for taking his life, and to redeem his soul after being wrongly convicted and hanged for murder.

Set in 1830s London, Marlott must operate outside the law as he comes up against dark forces in high society and in the dangerous slums of the over-crowded capital. In his pursuit of Hervey, Marlott takes on the establishment in the form of Robert Peel’s newly formed Police force and the Church.

In the darkest corners of Georgian London, Marlott acts as defender of the poor and destitute as he fights to clear his name and bring Hervey to justice.

The Frankenstein Chronicles Series 2 Episode Guide

Can’t wait to find out what’s happening on the new horror-suspense series, here’s a peek at what’s in store.

Episode 1

Three years have passed since John Marlott (SEAN BEAN) escaped from Daniel Hervey. In 1830, we find him chained and manacled in a cell at Royal Bethlem Hospital, on a wing for the criminally insane.

Marlott is lost in a nether world. Denied his resurrection and reunion with his family in heaven. He is unreachable, unresponsive – a broken man.

A visit by a local Reverend stirs Marlott. There is a glint of recognition. The visit causes a violent outburst and Marlott is administered electro-shock therapy. Terrible memories resurface, Hervey, Lady Jemima, Flora, his resurrection.  Suddenly Marlott is jolted back to life, with renewed purpose to seek revenge on Daniel Hervey for his crimes, and to redeem his soul after being wrongly convicted for murder.

London during our period is the capital of the world, the forefront of modernity of new advances in science and technology – the reason why the handsome German aristocrat Frederick Dipple is in town.

Marlott meets widowed seamstress Esther Rose who supplies him with a new set of clothes. She recognizes there is something unusual about Marlott and she is drawn to him in the same way he is to her.

When the body of a murdered Archdeacon is discovered; the first of a series of grisly clergy murders which will send a shockwave through London, Home Secretary Sir Robert Peel’s (TOM WARD) new Metropolitan Police fight with the Parish Watchmen for jurisdiction.  The lines are drawn in the battle between church and state.



Episode 2

Marlott (Sean Bean) visits the house of artist and printmaker William Blake who is on his deathbed, but hereceives Marlott as a prophet of things to come.

Marlott confers with Nightingale who has been keeping watch on a public house, The Fortune of War, where thebody snatchers gather. The pair set up a cunning ‘sting’ to capture a person of interest who may be able to help them with their investigation.

Episode 3

Having escaped the clutches of Billy Oates, Flora throws herself on Marlott’s mercy.  Believing her to be a key witness to Alice’s disappearance, he brings her to his lodgings for safety.

As the investigation continues, Marlott travels to Kentish Town to interrogate Mary Shelley. The connectionbetween her monster and the child corpse cannot be a mere coincidence

Episode 4

Marlott takes a terrified Pritty on their assignation to meet the men who kill for money – they find themselves in the tunnels under Smithfield market, which run from the Fortune of War pub to St Bart’s Hospital.

Flora has returned to Marlott’s lodgings, but now she is back Marlott intends to use her as bait for the murderous gang, much against Nightingale’s wishes.

Episode 5

Boz publishes his newspaper article, The Frankenstein Murders, which causes a public outcry and infuriates Peel on the eve of the Anatomy Act. Mary Shelley follows her own line of enquiry into the medical practice of Sir William Chester, uncovering secrets from the past. Marlott decides to go back to Greenwich to where it all began, is there something he is missing?

Episode 6

Marlott pieces together the links in the chain to connect the supplier of corpses with the his final suspect.  Last in series.
