Fitoor releases on the eve of valentine’s. A love story set in picturesque Kashmir. A poor boy madly in love with a rich girl much beyond his reach. An artist who sees infinite beauty. A rich heiress, jilted by a lover long ago, who cannot trust or see true love.
Fitoor (2016)
Director: Abhishek Kapoor
Stars: Katrina Kaif, Tabu, Aditya Roy Kapoor
Fitoor promises to be a love story set in a time you cannot really place. The dreamy cinematography, charming, old-world parties give it a feel that you won’t find in many movies.
Noor (Aditya Roy Kapoor) is a talented boy. Everything he touches – cans, barbed wire, wood – turns into an exquisite piece or art, but must work odd jobs to make ends meet in a troubled Kashmir. Firdaus (Katrina Kaif) belongs to a world exactly opposite. Money, status, and a secure present and future is taken for granted.
Begum (Tabu) has everything you would want, but there is no Spring in her life. She loves the idea of love, but cannot trust that man is capable of love. And that is the one thing she teaches her daughter – to not think of love above common sense.
Firdaus and Noor’s childhood romance blossoms again as they meet many years later in Delhi, where Noor is on an art scholarship from an unknown benefactor. Noor is still very much in love, but Firdaus is Begum’s daughter and the head rules over her heart.
All set to marry a politician-friend from Pakistan, whom she has met in London, Firdaus firmly believes in Begum’s advice as she flip-flops between her head and heart.
Abhishek Kapur has made an amazing adaptation of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. The serene, easy flowing script sucks you in from the begining. Love, Pain, and emotions tug at your heart without any brash screenplay. The modern, fusion music blends well with the movie and supports the overall tone of the movie.
The excellent cinematography captures different seasons in Kashmir. From the dim winter months to colorful Chinar leaves in fall. Although the movie doesn’t highlight the violence, the presence of the armed forces in the background narrates the situation quite well.
Abhishek Kapoor has created a gem with Fitoor and it is supported with excellent dialogues and flawless performances by Katrina and Aditya Roy Kapoor. You won’t be able to find in faults in this one. A relaxed yet highly emotionally charged romantic drama that is a pure work of art.
